Google Cloud AI Live: Scaling AI in Water Operations

Recently, Google Cloud invited Qatium to join AI Live and share our experience applying AI in water operations.

It was a valuable space to exchange perspectives on how organizations are bringing AI into practical use: not only through experimentation, but through systems that support decisions, teams, and operational challenges at scale.

Many of the conversations focused on AI agents, enterprise adoption, and the infrastructure needed to make AI useful in practice. For us, those themes echoed the work we’re doing with hundreds of water utilities across more than fifteen countries: helping teams improve service quality, reduce energy consumption, and minimize water losses through advanced AI solutions.

Google Cloud plays an important role in how we support AI requirements across water operations. At Qatium, we use Google Cloud and its AI capabilities in contexts where utilities need options such as sovereign deployments, access to frontier models like Gemini, or local inference with Gemma 4 when critical infrastructure requires more control over where AI runs.

At the same time, our AI journey is not defined by one model, one provider, or one use case. In water, AI cannot be treated as a single feature or a one-size-fits-all solution. Utilities need the right kind of intelligence for each operational need: improving data quality, supporting users, surfacing insights, evaluating scenarios, creating workflows, and helping teams act with more confidence. That is how we approach AI at Qatium: applying AI across the platform to help utilities move from reactive operations to intelligent water operations while keeping people firmly in control.

What we heard at Google Cloud AI Live reflects a broader shift across industries. The conversation is moving from what AI can generate to how AI can be trusted, governed, integrated, and used in real operations.

 For the water sector, that matters. AI has to be secure, human-led, and built around the realities of operating critical infrastructure.
